Whether you stumbled across our website or social media pages, a friend recommended us to you, or you found us on Google, you may be wondering why you should schedule an appointment with Birth Choice if you are facing an unplanned pregnancy. What happens during your appointment, and why is it necessary?
When you come to Birth Choice for your first appointment, a few important things happen. First, we will confirm your pregnancy with a medical-grade pregnancy test. This is important, because some home pregnancy tests aren’t as effective, or you may have even read the results wrong if it wasn’t a digital test. At Birth Choice, a Registered Nurse will confirm the results of your pregnancy and, if the test was positive, will provide a pregnancy verification form that you can use to apply for Medicaid or CHIP. Having medical staff available to you is so helpful! They can answer some complicated questions and can make you feel at ease with your situation.
Another important part of your appointment is counseling. We have amazing client advocates who sit with you one-on-one to learn about the details of your particular situation. Every client is different, and we take the time to understand each and every one. This is when we also discuss your options: abortion, adoption, and parenting. With each of these options, there is so much crucial information to know before making your final decision. For example, with abortion, what are the abortion laws in Texas, and is your pregnancy viable? With adoption, how does the process work in Texas, and which kind of adoption is best for you? With parenting, what sorts of resources are available to help you with your needs? We share updated and accurate information with you, and we are here to talk through everything you are thinking. You are not alone.
Either that same day or soon after, we provide a free ultrasound to better determine how far along you are in your pregnancy. This is an important step, as it gives you a better sense of when your baby is due, how the baby is growing, etc. Our sonographers are professional and compassionate and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
Finally, we can connect you to whatever resources you may need. Need housing? Need a doctor? Need material assistance? We can help! And if you are interested, you can also sign up for our education program and attend classes (currently offered online due to COVID19) that cover pregnancy, parenting, and life skills.
Our priority is that you feel safe and informed as you make a decision about your unplanned pregnancy. We know this isn’t easy, but you are not alone. We are here to help you find peace in your situation.
